INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY: AS A TOOL IN THE PREVENTION AND DETECTION OF CRIMES

This study aimed to evaluate if the innovative technology may serve as a tool in the prevention and detection of crimes as viewed by the concerned citizen in the City of Lucena. Specifically, the researchers utilized the descriptive survey method of research and distributed questionnaires to three (3) of groups of respondents; police personnel, government officials, and employees of different private establishments. Results revealed that modern technology such as computer, cell phone and CCTV camera is a tool in the prevention and detection of crimes. Majority of them are aware that this equipment may help as it is used to provide information on what happens inside and outside the establishments for the detection and prevention of crimes. It may serve to transfer information faster as emergency takes place and therefore it helps to curve the criminality in the community. iv INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY ENVERGA UNIVERSITY On the other hand, computer, cell phone and CCTV camera is a tool but cannot stand alone to detect and prevent crimes occurrence and about to occur. More so, the information through cell phone reported by the community is not easily trusted by the PNP though it is easy to save and store since except the confidentiality of the document cannot be assured. In addition, CCTV can also provide blurred image in a far distance. Consequently, it is recommended that the operator of the innovative technology especially the law enforcers must have enough training in using the equipment to be more effective in the implementation of the law. The information from the community through cell phone must be checked by the PNP.
