ROLE OF DSWD IN SUPERVISING CHILDREN UNDER THEIR CUSTODY

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the role of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in supervising children under their custody. It also sought to identify the impact of the programs on the behavior of children in conflict with the law. This descriptive research revealed that the DSWD personnel have an important role to supervise the children under their custody to change, then always do their job as well they are performing duties to help the children for their behavioral problems. They provide assistance, direct, guide, control and serves to the juvenile offenders to adjust and change their behavior to develop their own personal knowledge and talents to be a good person in the rehabilitation. Also, the children under the custody of DSWD are participating in all kinds of programs that will help them to be happy inside the center. They cooperate to the DSWD personnel to express what they are feel and the problems that they have. They are disciplined. They help the DSWD personnel in other activities and they act as a child of them. The personnel of the DSWD have an important role to give care and guide to the children under their custody and especially to provide education and shelter and basic needs of the child from maintaining his purpose in life. The children under the custody of DSWD are responsible to follow the rule and regulation, many of the children in rehabilitation are most not like in staying in the institution but in the majority they like to stay inside. It is recommended to keep or continue giving and teaching them from different programs which help them to develop themselves and work habits and other sense at compliments.
