Completed2012

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the situation of smoking ban in Pagbilao, Quezon and the level of awareness of the respondents on the implementation of smoking situation in the municipality. The researchers used the descriptive-survey method and distribute one set of questionnaire for the drivers of public utility vehicle and commuters of public transportation to gather and accumulate pertinent data. Results were generated through the use of percentage, weighted value and weighted mean. Results revealed that majority of the respondent were aware of the Municipal Ordinance No. 4 known as “SMOKING BAN IN PUBLIC BULIDING, OFFICES AND PUBLIC MODES OF TRANSPORT” although they are not sure about the fines for the violation and or whether people are being punished for violating the ordinance. On the other hand, the commuters believed that the law enforcers are not sufficient enough in implementing the ordinance due to lack of attention that they give to those driver who are smoking inside public utility vehicle. It is therefore recommended that local government should conduct seminar for the drivers of public transportation about the smoking ban in Pagbilao, Quezon. The Municipality of Pagbilao should also provide a hotline number to make the implementation of the ordinance easier and the fines for violation should be increased so that people will not want to commit violations.
