Area of Research
Abstract
Photography is one of the oldest and basic fundamental of visual communication. It is the series of actions involving light or electromagnetic radiation to record images of objects on various surfaces. It always requires light to duplicate the real-life image being taken and enlists the use of a camera to capture the image needed to produce the recreation of the image onto photographic film (Nook, 2010). Photography is the result of combining several technical discoveries. Long before, the first photographs were made by, Chinese philosopher Mo Di and Greek mathematicians Aristotle and Euclid which described a pinhole camera in the 5th and 4th centuries.
The discovery of the camera that provides an image of a scene dates back to ancient China. Leonardo da Vinci mentions natural cameras that are formed by dark caves on the edge of a sunlit valley. A hole in the cave wall will act as a pinhole camera and project a laterally reversed, upside down image on a piece of paper. So the birth of photography was primarily concerned with inventing means to fix and retain the image produced by the camera.
Since the early years of the 20th century the corporate functions of a photographic studio have increasingly been called a “photographic agency,” leaving the term “photographic studio” to refer almost exclusively to the workspace.Today many studios have sprung up to serve the ever growing media industry. Some of these studio have a resident photographer others operate mainly as a space fore hire
