The researchers formulated a questionnaire, in order to assess the response of the students. The demographic profile of the respondents was also determined. The present study assessed the grades of the respondents in their subjects and sought how class room environment affect alertness of the students in class. It was tallied, reviewed, tabulated, coded and analyzed using different statistical tools. Simple percentage formula is employed to characterize the demographic profile of the respondents and to determine the average response of the respondents in their grades in each subject and on how do classroom environment affect the alertness of the students in class weighted mean formula was used. In order to assess if there is significant relationship between the effect of surroundings to students alertness and the grades of the respondents to their subjects, the Pearson product correlation formula was utilized, and null hypothesis was set as there is a significant relationship between classroom environment to academic competency with a degree freedom of 0.00. The results revealed that the null hypothesis is accepted as there is no significant relationship between classroom environment to academic competency of the marine transportation students.
