MANAGING STYLES OF ENGINE OFFICERS AND WORK PERFORMANCE OF THE ENGINE CREWS IN DALAHICAN PORT, LUCENA CITY

Abstract

This study aimed to decribed the managing styles of engine officers in a ship to ensure a stronghold amongst the crew to make them work together as a single unit. Individuals are expected to demonstrate good work performance when properly motivated. The descriptive research using the survey method was conducted in Dalahican Port, Lucena City. Respondents were six engine officers and 28 engine crew working in three passenger vessels at the Dlalahican Port, Lucena City. Results revealed that the managing style of engine officers in Dalahican Port was competent that refelcted on the quality of the work perfromance of the engine crew in terms of task and contextual performance as well as productive work behavior. The training of both officers and crew is effective that has helped crew and officers avoid the potential dangers or accidents to the engine room.
