Abstract

This study aimed to determined the safety awareness of RORO vessel passengers in fire safety practices and emergencies on board. The gathering of date was conducted in Batangas Port through descriptive research. A total of 100 passenger respondents who boarded a RORO vessel answered the survey questionnaire. Results revealed that teh safety awareness of RORO vessel passengers in fire safety practices and emergencies could help make the passengers aware of the different preparations on different emergency situations on board a RORO vessel. Through this study safety awareness for passenger could be helpful to avoid and lessen casualties during fire emergency siatuations. Meanwhile, one the problems encountered in the study is that most of the passengers are not aware of the safety practices during abandoning ship situation on board. It is recommended that the maritime authority must develop and should have a force implementation based on the released standards by the International Maritime Organizarion (IMO) for ferry operation in the Phillipines.
