THE USE OF CCTV IN SELECTED PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN LUCENA CITY AS A TOOL IN DETECTING DISORDER AS PERCEIVED BY SECURITY GUARDS

Abstract

This research study used a descriptive survey method. It’s main focused is to determine the use of CCTV in selected private schools in Lucena City. Specifically, it sought to answer the following: the demographic profile of the security guards’ respondents in terms of: sex, age and years in the service. Second, the level of effectiveness of CCTV in Selected Private Schools in Lucena City and the usual problems encounters by the security guards’ respondents in CCTV. Based from the findings, the following conclusions were made by the researchers: security guards respondents were male, ages 30 years’ old and 3 years in the service; based on the effectiveness, the CCTV helps security guards to daily monitors routines in schools. It is used as evidence in crimes. It provides security to the pupils/students in the school, CCTV serves as an eye in the school and it intensifies monitoring of places in school which can be source of accidents. On the problems encountered by the security guards in the use of CCTV: there is a limitations of the scope it covers. CCTV can easily be covered and manipulated by the suspect, sometimes security guards had a problem on recording. CCTV is sensitive that can easily damage and failed to identify problems specially at night. In light of the findings and conclusions, the researchers came up with the following recommendations: (1) Since that most of the respondents were new in their profession, it is recommended to undergo several trainings to be more fully equipped and enhance their skills in maintaining safety and security in the schools. (2) Since that it is revealed that CCTV helps monitor daily routines in school and sources of evidence for any crime it is recommended for other private and even public schools in Lucena City to install CCTV cameras to intensify monitoring of safety in school. (3) It is recommended that the school which has CCTV should provide trainings for security guards in manipulating CCTV cameras in school and make sure that areas which were not covered by the CCTV will be properly monitored.
