Completed2013

Abstract

This study determined the use of tomato juice in lowering blood pressure among diagnosed hypertensive male and female adults. The study was participated mostly of female aging 45 to 55 years old who were found to have familial history of hypertension and commonly taking ARBS as the common treatment for hypertension. Research ethics was observed on the process of this study. Informed consents were secured from the participants prior to the conduct of this study. Using an experimental method of research, the study participants were divided into two-groups-the control and experimental group. Both groups undergo pre-assessment of their blood pressure and were provided with health teachings specifically on dietary intake. Only the experimental group were prescribed to have an intake of 1 glass (250ml ) of tomato juice daily for 31 day period. Based on the findings of the study, it revealed that there is no significant difference on the pre-treatment and post treatment of the blood pressure assessment of both the control and experimental group. However, as for the cure rate of the tomato juice in lowering the blood pressure of the participants within 31-day period, it revealed to have significant findings as evidenced with the computed t-test value of (2.07) which is slightly higher than the critical t-test value of (1.701). In general, it was ruled out that an intake of a glass ( or 250 ml) of tomato juice once a day as an alternative treatment has been found out to be effective in lowering blood pressure.
