Analysis of the Political Participation of the Persons with Disabilities in Lucena City

Abstract

The study was conducted in Dalubhasaang Lungsod ng Lucena (City College) and consisted of local residents from the selected locale. There were a total of 100 selected persons with disabilities from the 1427 registered voters in the selected locale. The political place of participation has to a large extent been opened for PWDs but the implementation of laws and policies is lacking behind. Despite the inclusion of PWDs, they need information about their rights, and they also need to feel themselves capable to participate. This study also concludes that discrimination and equality issues were some challenges faced by the persons with disabilities. It tends to exclude them and distort their roles in the society. In light of the findings, the researcher recommended the strengthening of Magna Carta for the persons with disabilities that promotes of anti-discrimination policy, as well as the need to provide further understanding to some political matters, and also by conducting a similar study to indicate a significant difference on the of the persons with disabilities .
