Content Analysis on the Role of Philippine Media in the Coco Levy Funds Issue

The influence of Philippine media to the issue of Coco Levy Fund has great implications to the people and the issue. The Philippines has a long history of press manipulation as the online print media has also become the place of media companies. This thesis examines the role of the online newspaper in influencing the perception of the readers regarding the Coco Levy Funds Issue thru Inquirer.net, Rappler.com and Bulatlat.com This study attempted to check the performance of the three different kinds of online print in adherence to its agenda-setting through semiotic theory to gauge the standpoint of each online news about the Coco levy. The researcher analyzed a total of 5 articles published each aforementioned online newspapers from 2010-2015. This study shows the role of journalism as an important aspect society and human life; where thought patterns and social and cultural context manifest; and thus through a systematic observation of digital newspaper journalism, an important outcome can be produced.
