ASSESSMENT ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF NATIONAL FIREARMS CONTROL PROGRAM AS PERCEIVED BY RESIDENTS OF LUCENA CITY

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of national firearms control program as perceived by residents of Lucena City. The gathering of data was conducted in different selected barangays in Lucena City and the researchers utilized the descriptive-survey method of research. A total of 100 respondents answered the questionnaire. Findings revealed that the respondents was aware that the program helps to prevent gun related incidents. In terms of level of implementation the personnel has sufficient knowledge and skills to enforce the program. In terms of strategies, the respondents’ states that the program prohibits the possession of firearms during elections to lessen gun related crimes while in terms of monitoring the existence of firearms, the respondents’ believed that the renewal of gun licences is properly executed and in terms of perceived impact of the program in effective gun control, the program helps the police organization and the other sectors of the government in fighting criminal who illegally using firearms.
