John David O. Amarillo, Maria Concepcion B. Ayala, Clifford R. Alvarez and John Ferdinan E. Grande., DEVELOPMENT OF ERGONOMIC DESIGNED TRICYCLE SIDECAR, Unpublished Project Study for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, March 2015.
This project study emphasized the tricycle sidecar in the City of Lucena for public utilization. Tricycles are common means of transportation of passengers in different areas of Lucena City. Unfortunately, the increased volume of commuters has also translated into higher number of complaints and even accidents, according to the statistics compiled by the Philippine Pediatric Society, 54% of all injuries in the Philippines occur in the streets.
Given the situation, this study aims to determine the factors that affect the comfortability and safety of the passengers, to apply performance measures in order to determine best design of the tricycle sidecar, to apply ergonomic solutions that would minimize discomfort and unsafe conditions experienced by the passengers, and to develop a prototype of an ergonomically designed tricycle sidecar. These are attained by following the needs of the passengers through ergonomics. The prototype of this tricycle has been fabricated. The discovered true factors— anthropometrics and other factors have been considered in the proposed tricycle sidecar at the design stage.
In order to evaluate the ergonomic tricycle sidecar, the researchers allow 171 respondents to use the tricycle sidecar. The evaluation is composed of statements to determine if the overall comfortability and safety is enhanced. Based on the results, the overall comfortability and safety of the improved design tricycle sidecar falls under the category of highly satisfied with the mean average of 4.49.
