Abstract
Arambulo Kristine., Briones Emelito Jr., Pentiño Larry Neil. “Helmet Activated Motorcycle Ignition System”. Unpublished Project Study for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communication Engineering, College of Engineering and Technical Department, Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City, March 2015. Road accidents in the Philippines increases every year especially the motorcycle
accidents. The motorcycle accident leads to fatality and sometimes death especially when the
drivers do not wear a proper headgear like a helmet. Motorcycle is the preferred vehicle because
they are cheap, consume less fuel and easy to use. Fatality of motorcycle accidents can be
reduced if motorist will wear a helmet. Due to lack of discipline many motorist do not wear a
helmet. The aim and purpose of this prototype is to create an electronic device that will oblige a
motorist to wear a helmet. The researchers considered several factors for the proper functioning
of the prototype. Theoretical knowledge on different principles and theories in electronics and
communication engineering was also considered in the design and construction. Hence, “Helmet
Activated Motorcycle Ignition System” is constructed. The main function of this project is to
ignite a motorcycle using a helmet. The transmitter and receiver module are placed in the helmet
and motorcycle. There are three pressure sensors in the helmet that acts as a sensor, these acts as
the input of the system, which is located at the top and side of the helmet. These pressure sensor
located inside the helmet will trigger the system to start. If one of the inputs is absent the system
will not work. Microcontroller is also used to contain the program that will activate the whole
system. If the said parameters are not satisfied the system will not operate. The prototype is put
into test and it work as expected. The respondents agreed that the system is functional, effective,
efficient and safe to use.
