Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of compliance of boarding houses in Site University Village to the Fire and Building Code. In this perspective, the researchers utilized the descriptive survey method of research and distributed three separate sets of questionnaire to fire safety inspectors, owners, and students to gather and accumulate pertinent data. Findings revealed that most of the boarding houses in Site, University Village has a low level of compliance to the Fire and Building Code. Although most of them have business permit, they do not have sufficient equipment that will be used in case of fire and misfortune. Boarding houses were constructed not in accordance with the fire safety measures. In general, the level of compliance of different boarding houses in Site University Village was only rated average due to the mentioned insufficiency. It is therefore recommended that the owners should provide all the necessary firefighting equipment and safety measures. They should utilize suggestion box as an evaluative tool to determine the needs and the things that should be provided in their boarding house. The BFP of Lucena City should conduct regular inspection of boarding houses in Site, University Village in order to eliminate fire hazard and to prevent possible occurrence of fire.
