Literary Treasures of Quezon Province

This study concentrated on the gathering, classification and compilation of literary pieces written by authors of Quezon province. A qualitative research methodology was used in this study. Data were gathered through interviews and survey of authentic documents and materials. The data were analyzed using historical analysis and ethnography. The researchers employed three types of criticisms: the biographical, the sociological, and the historical criticism. These criticisms guided the researchers in developing the questionnaire used to gather the data. From the review of related literature, the researchers have come up with a framework to guide them in achieving their objectives that were previously stated. The researchers used the input-process-output model in the development of an anthology of the literary works. The first phase focused on the survey of literary selections of Quezonians; the second phase initiated the classification and literary analysis of the materials; and the last phase is the production of the anthology. The researchers found that many literary writers in Quezon Province need to be given proper recognition for their contributions in Philippine Literature and that a rich collection of masterpieces of Quezonians fall under various genres of literature. With the aid of biographical, historical, and sociological criticisms, the researchers were able to unfold the regional concepts and local color that lead to the identity of Quezon Province. Based on all the findings and conclusions, the researchers highly recommend that a more extensive study of the literary treasures of Quezon Province be conducted; the literary works of the Quezonians be integrated in the study of Philippine Literature and related disciplines; awards in honor of these writers be given to Quezonians who had shown exemplary achievements in literature; a special section shall be placed in the university library to feature the collection of literary works of Quezonians; and the literary works of Quezonians be preserved in a center/museum for the province’s culture, literature and arts.
