Taking Strategies into Action: Implementation of Programs and Activities of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council in Lucena City

The Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) plays a vital role in combating drug abuse at the grassroots level in Lucena City. This study examines the implementation, effectiveness, and challenges faced by BADAC programs. A sample of 268 respondents, including residents, barangay officials, and BADAC members, was surveyed using interviews and questionnaires to assess how factors such as funding, logistics, and personnel impact program outcomes. Findings reveal moderate implementation levels, with logistical inefficiencies, limited funding, and inadequate personnel support being significant hurdles. Despite the positive perceived impacts of BADAC activities, these efforts have yet to achieve substantial community transformation. Demographic analysis highlights the need for inclusivity across age groups, genders, and residency durations to ensure comprehensive and representative anti-drug strategies. In alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 (promoting inclusive societies and effective institutions) and SDG 9 (building resilient infrastructures), the study emphasizes innovative strategies for overcoming current limitations. Strengthening logistical systems, enhancing funding mechanisms, and investing in capacity-building initiatives for personnel are critical recommendations. Additionally, fostering active community participation and collaboration with agencies such as the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is essential for long-term success. This study provides actionable insights for policymakers, law enforcement, and stakeholders to enhance anti-drug initiatives in Lucena City, ensuring they are inclusive, sustainable, and impactful in addressing drug-related challenges at the grassroots level.
