Unraveling Justice: A Descriptive Analysis of Delays in the Philippine Criminal Court System
Area of Research
Abstract
The Philippine court system was vital in ensuring fair access to legal resources and
protecting marginalized communities. However, persistent challenges hindered justice's unbiased and timely delivery. This study utilized a non-probability convenience sampling, gathering insights from 140 legal professionals through a structured self-made questionnaire. Data analysis revealed several critical issues, including inadequate court facilities, insufficient personnel, outdated procedures, and lack of technological adoption. These factors
contributed to case backlogs, prolonged delays, evidence deterioration, and systemic inequities within the judicial system. Respondents highlighted the significant potential of technological innovations, such
as digital case management systems and virtual hearings, in modernizing judicial processes and mitigating delays. The findings indicate the urgent need for systemic reforms to enhance efficiency and equity within the courts.
The study recommended several measures to address these challenges. Allocating additional resources to improve court infrastructure and providing more professional training for judicial staff were emphasized as essential steps. Integrating modern technology into
court operations was also identified as a key solution to reducing systemic delays and
improving case management. These reforms aimed to create a more effective and equitable justice system,
fostering fairness, accountability, and transparency while ensuring timely case resolution.
Addressing these systemic issues was critical to upholding individuals' rights and dignity and
restoring public confidence in the judicial process.
Through these improvements, the Philippine court system could fulfill its mandate to deliver justice more efficiently and equitably for all stakeholders involved.
