Abstract
This study determined the Barangay Justice System: A Pathway to Improved
Access to Justice for Disadvantaged Members of the Community. It evaluated the
effectiveness of the Barangay Justice system in resolving disputes among the
disadvantaged members of the community. It explored the innovative strategies and
improvements that can enhance the functionality of the Barangay Justice system in
serving the disadvantaged members of the community. Specifically, this study
employed a descriptive research design using a quantitative method. The research
locale of this study is Lucena City particularly situated in Barangay 1. The participants
of this study were the residents of the said research locale. A total of two hundred and ninety (290) residents were the main respondents of this study. They were
chosen using simple random sampling. Furthermore, a Likert scale questionnaire
was used as the research instrument of this study. The validation process ensured its
consistency and credibility. The scope of this study was limited only to selected
barangays within Lucena City to provide a detailed analysis of the barangay justice
system in those areas. Moreover, it was also limited to the focus on disadvantaged group, including but not limited to low-income families, marginalized communities, women, and other vulnerable populations. Lastly, the researchers developed an output that will help the proper implementation of the justice system for disadvantaged people. The findings revealed that the majority of the respondents are in the age group consisting of 41.91 years old, predominantly females, and have
lived in the area for 15.18 years of residency in the barangay.
These demographics implored that they can affect their perception and observation regarding the Barangay Justice System. The Barangay Justice System performs at a high level of
effectiveness. The organization performs its mandate in accordance with existing
legal protocols of the law and its functions.
