Completed2024

Abstract

Crime prevention is significant for enhancing public safety by implementing measures that deter criminal activities. This study assessed the level of community awareness regarding crime prevention initiatives in Barangay Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City, with a particular focus on the effectiveness of these programs and the factors influencing awareness. The research aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 16 - Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. These goals emphasize enhancing community safety and promoting effective governance in crime prevention efforts. The study was conducted in Barangay Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City, which recorded the highest number of offenses among the 33 barangays in the area. A quantitative research design with a descriptive approach was employed, using a structured questionnaire to gather data from 383 respondents across 29 sitios/Purok in Barangay Ibabang Dupay, selected through convenience sampling. Data were analyzed across five sections: demographic profiles, awareness of crime prevention programs, influencing factors, and perceptions of program effectiveness. Findings revealed that residents exhibited awareness of the crime prevention initiatives in their barangay. The study concluded that enhancing information dissemination and community engagement could enhance awareness. This research contributes to SDG 16 by fostering community involvement and effective governance in crime reduction initiatives.
