Unveiling the Impact of Cyberbullying Through Students' Perspective

Completed2024

Abstract

The research investigated student's perceptions of cyberbullying, aiming to understand demographic characteristics, its impacts on self-integration, social perception, and support networks and to identify effective coping mechanisms. This study was closely aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 16, which focused on promoting mental health and fostering peaceful, inclusive societies. By addressing the mental health challenges posed by cyberbullying, the research contributed to enhancing the overall support network among students. Utilizing a quantitative descriptive approach, the researchers developed a self-made questionnaire that was distributed to high school students at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation. The findings in the demographic profile revealed that the mean age of male and female participants was 15 years old. The results highlighted significant adverse effects of cyberbullying on students' social integration, selfperception, and support networks. Participants reported feelings of withdrawal, exclusion, and distrust, with an average weighted mean score of 3.15 for social integration challenges. Additionally, victims experienced emotional turmoil characterized by self-doubt and diminished self-esteem. The study emphasized that feelings of shame and embarrassment hindered students from seeking help, leading to isolation and further psychological distress. Overall, the research underscored the urgent need for targeted interventions to support students affected by cyberbullying, fostering a safer and more inclusive educational environment that promotes their support network and resilience.
