SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVE ON THE IMPACT OF ONLINE GAMBLING AMONG THE YOUTH

Abstract

Online Gambling is an activity that involves betting game that uses real cash that can be earned digitally. Addressing the issue regarding the online gambling in the Philippines, Rep. Ricardo S. Cruz a House Bill 7689 to ban online gambling. In his statement, the government generated a good income by embracing this platform but it endangered people, let alone minors with activities that bring about addictive behaviors as well as increased mental health and financial problems. This study's primary aim is to increase the youth's awareness about the effects of online gambling and produce preventive measures for them. This study employed a descriptive research design to find out the attitudes and reasons of students who engaged in online gambling and how it affected their academic, financial, and social lives. The participants were 290 Lucena City National High School students aged 16. To gather valid and reliable data, the researchers provided a consent letter for the respondents before answering the self-construct survey questionnaire through hard copies. The results shows that most of the respondents are not engaged in online gambling however when it comes to their awareness, it reveals that they believe online gambling wouldn’t affect their school performance. Therefore, the researchers recommend the school to have intervention programs as well as discuss the brochure made by the researcher to increase their awareness and achieve healthy lives and well-being.
