Abstract

Tourism is an important industry in the Philippines. It is considered as a viable sector of the country’s economy that contributes to 5.9% of the Philippine gross domestic product (GDP) in 2011, according to the National Statistical Coordination Board (2013). Manila, the country’s capital, which serves as its main gateway to the Philippines, is surrounded by many tourist destinations where activities are done inside and outside the nearby cities. It is hometo most of the cultural heritage sites such as cathedrals, leisure parks, government offices and many other establishments. It is also visited by the majority of international tourists reaching millions annually. Consequently, the Department of Tourism (DOT) along with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) reported insufficiency of hotel rooms in the coming of 2016. Aiming to solve the said problem and to help boost the country’s economy through tourism, the proponent, designed this project. It will not only boost the tourism industry and job needs but it will also be the first of its kind in the Philippines. The proposed building seeks to partially solve the insufficiency of accommodations. The proposed building will use the latest technologies to provide efficient energy-saving and/or self-sustaining systems, features that are found in green architecture. These facilities will comply with the highest standards to achieve the best results. The project can also be installed in any place of the offshore zone, is not only to solve the problem of search and selection of a deficient accommodations and research maritime land plot but also to provide the absolutely fantastic opportunity to stay in a five-star hotel on water.
