Enhancing Fire Safety: An Evaluation of the Bureau of Fire Protection’s Fire Prevention Program Implemented in the City

Completed2024

Abstract

Fire poses a serious threat to life and property in Lucena City, making fire prevention a critical priority for the local government. This study aimed to assess the fire prevention programs of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Lucena City. Using the descriptive research method, 379 individuals from the community, specifically in Brgy. Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City, were selected as respondents. This barangay was chosen due to statistics showing it has the highest incidence of recorded fire cases compared to other barangays. The researchers employed a convenience sampling technique in respondent selection for the benefit of the study. Researchers distributed self-constructed questionnaires individually to the selected respondents for data collection, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of the community. The findings revealed that the fire prevention programs currently implemented in Barangay Ibabang Dupay have been only partially effective, inconsistently implemented, and with many residents unaware that there are existing fire prevention programs. This indicates a significant need for enhancements to these initiatives. As a result, the researchers produced an informative video entitled "E-Kaalaman: Para sa EU Kaligtasan," aimed at raising community awareness. This video will be shared on Facebook in collaboration with the local government unit and BFP Lucena. The researchers advocate for their output as a means to enhance the safety and resilience of cities, especially in the context of fire emergencies.
