STUDENTS’ AWARENESS OF REPUBLIC ACT 10054 ALSO KNOWN AS MOTORCYCLE HELMET ACT OF 2009: A STUDY ON KNOWLEDGE AND COMPLIANCE
Area of Research
Abstract
Republic Act 10054, also known as Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009, was enacted to
protect motorcycle riders from severe injuries and fatalities. This study aimed to assess the level
of awareness and compliance of students regarding RA 10054. A quantitative research design
was employed, utilizing a descriptive-survey method. Data was collected with the help of
questionnaires distributed to two hundred (200) students. The findings revealed that while most
students were aware of RA 10054, their level of compliance varied. Factors such as age,
gender, and year level were found to influence awareness and compliance rates. The study also
identified common reasons for non-compliance, such as inconvenience, lack of enforcement,
and perceived invulnerability. The results of this study highlight the need for continued efforts to
educate the public about the importance of wearing helmets and to strictly enforce RA 10054.
Future research may explore the effectiveness of different educational campaigns and
enforcement strategies in promoting helmet use among motorcycle riders and to start this
campaign the researcher’s output is a brochure. The output can be placed in high-traffic areas
like educational institutions, public transport stops, community centers etc. this will ensure the
maximum exposure and visibility to the target audience.
