Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC): Analysis of its Effectiveness in the Selected Barangay of Lucena City

Abstract

The Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) is an essential council created at the Barangay to spearhead the implementation and monitoring of anti-drug abuse programs, projects, and activities. The research delved into the various roles and responsibilities of BADAC, exploring existing literature to establish a comprehensive understanding of its intended functions. The researchers explored the effectiveness of this program in meeting the complex needs of communities experiencing drug abuse. The study was conducted in Barangay Cotta, Barangay Marketview, and Barangay Ibabang Dupay. To gauge the perceived effectiveness of BADAC, the researchers employed simple random sampling to select three hundred eighty-four (384) residents in the selected barangay as per the RAOSOFT calculator. Data was gathered through questionnaires, focusing on residents' perceptions of the program's impact. The initial output of the study is a proposal program plan for the selected barangays that contains the strategies of BADAC and its functions in the community. With this, it helped the residents to gain a comprehensive insight into how effective BADAC is in the community. The findings of the study highlight the importance of strong community participation in the success of the BADAC efforts in Lucena City. In areas with high community trust and engagement, BADAC’s initiatives and more effective in reducing drug-related incidents through active involvement in prevention and early detection. They also emphasize BADAC's role in drug prevention, particularly through monitoring drug users and collaborating with local enforcement, which significantly contributes to minimizing drug abuse and fostering good relations between communities.
