SOCIAL MEDIA EFFECTS ON POLICE IMAGE AS PERCEIVED BY SELECTED BARANGAY RESIDENTS IN LUCENA CITY

Abstract
Videos of law enforcement found on news and social media can depict police
enforcement behaviors badly or positively. Viewing these movies may indirectly affect public
behavior and attitudes about law enforcement. The purpose of this study was to know the social
media effects on police image as perceived by selected barangay in Lucena City. This study
used descriptive design with a quantitative approach to describe the problem. Through random
sampling procedure this study sought 384 respondents from different barangays. Respondents
overwhelmingly agreed that platforms such as Facebook and Tiktok are effective in sharing
stories of heroism, successful crime prevention, and community interactions, which enhance the
police's positive image. Respondents overwhelmingly agreed that using social media to address
public concerns and provide updates on community efforts increases public respect for law
enforcement. And lastly, this paper came up with the crafting of infographics towards guidelines
on proper way of identifying the right information about the activities and engagement of police
officers as well the delivery of services.
