EFFECTIVENESS OF PHYSICAL SECURITY MEASURES IN MANUEL S. ENVERGA UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION PARKING AREAS

Completed2024

Abstract

The study investigated the effectiveness of physical security measures in the parking areas of Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation (MSEUF) to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors. It aimed to evaluate how well security measures such as security personnel, CCTV cameras, and access controls deterred unauthorized access, theft, and vandalism. Using a quantitative approach, the researchers distributed a questionnaire to students, faculty, and staff who regularly used the parking areas. The survey gathered data on participants' perception of safety, incidents experienced or witnessed, and satisfaction with the existing security measures. Convenient sampling was employed to select representative parking areas and respondents, while hypotheses were tested to examine relationships between security measures and incidents. The findings indicate that CCTV cameras, lighting, and security patrols significantly contributed to monitoring and controlling the parking areas. CCTV systems and patrols were particularly crucial in maintaining security. Drivers also faced challenges related to parking space availability, congestion, and narrow spaces, negatively affecting their parking experience. Whiling lighting issues and infrastructure damage were less frequent, they still posed potential safety risks. The study recommends expanding CCTV camera coverage, enhancing lighting, and addressing problems with parking space allocation and traffic flow management. Regular maintenance of parking infrastructure was also suggested to minimize risks and improve the overall safety and experience in the parking areas.
