Abstract

This study analyzed the flood preparedness plan of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in Lucena City, focusing on community awareness of its flood prevention programs. The goal is to reduce flood-related casualties through better awareness and active participation in seminars and on-site activities. A descriptive research design employing a quantitative approach was utilized, with a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. The study involved 384 respondents from selected flood-prone barangays in Lucena City, chosen using the RAOSOFT calculator. The study found that the CDRRMO flood plan in Lucena City is effective but hindered by challenges like poor coordination, limited funding, and lack of community involvement. The research stresses the importance of planning, coordination, and community participation, alongside improved information dissemination and monitoring. Overcoming these challenges through better inter-agency collaboration and active community engagement is vital for enhancing flood resilience and disaster preparedness in Lucena City. The outcome of the research is an action plan that would present the recommendation that CDDRMO might be using. This action plan was designed to help the CDRRMO assess its performance, improve community partnerships, and identify areas for improvement. The action plan would educate residents about the causes, impacts, and preparedness strategies related to floods.
