THE ROLE OF BARANGAY PEACEKEEPING ACTION TEAMS (BPATs) AS FORCE MULTIPLIER: ITS IMPLICATION TO PEACE AND ORDER IN LUCENA CITY
Abstract
The Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) serve as a law enforcement force multiplier at the barangay level, assisting local authorities in maintaining peace and order. This study examines the role of BPATs in Lucena City, focusing on their implications in effective community policing. The study's objectives include assessing BPAT strategies, their effectiveness in terms of community partnerships, organizational transformation, and problem-solving, and identifying challenges they face. This study was conducted using descriptive method under a quantitative research design. The research locale covered selected barangays of Lucena City. The target respondents of this study were determined using the RAOSOFT calculator, which accounted for three hundred eighty-four (384) residents of the city. The researchers incorporated questionnaire-type in the data-gathering procedure. The findings highlighted BPATs' strengths while also addressing the challenges they face. By identifying both strengths and areas for improvement, the plan presents strategic recommendations to optimize BPAT operations. Key recommendations aim to aid in strengthening BPAT operations. This action plan aims to optimize BPA contributions to public safety, improve community-police collaboration, and ensure long-term peacekeeping sustainability at the barangay level.
