Investigating Human Factors in Engine Room Simulators: Impact on Crew Interaction and Decision-Making
Area of Research
Abstract
The objective of this study aimed to investigate the human factors in engine room simulators and their impact on crew interaction and decision-making. Seafarers can acquire practical experience in engine room simulators without taking real-world risks, which is why they are frequently used for training. The capacity of crew members to communicate effectively and cooperate wisely in simulated environments is nevertheless impacted by human factors like stress levels, exhaustion, and communication abilities. This study was aimed at a quantitative research is appropriate to use in finding facts and acceptable and precise in analyzing the findings, In the quantitative approach, a survey method in the form of a questionnaire was used to gather information on effective techniques in investigating the human factors in engine room simulators and their impact on crew interaction and decision-making. Based on the findings of the study,, the researchers have formulated and inferred the following conclusions providing students students with valuable practices experience and enhancing their understanding of marine engineering principles. These findings underscore the importance of engine room simulators in preparing future marine engineers for the challenges they will face in their profession with a safe and controlled learning environmental and contributing to their overall learning process. This research had significant implications for maritime training programs. By identifying key human factors that influence crew performance in the engine room simulators can be tailored to address these issues more effectively. Ultimately, it contributed to the improvement of safety standards within the maritime industry by enhancing crew members' ability to handle challenging situations efficiently and collaboratively.
