Fishermen’s Village: Housing for Informal Settlers with Fishery Livelihood/Facilities
Area of Research
Abstract
The lack of housing is one of the largest problems of the country. With the number of informal settlers continuously increasing, affordable housing projects with economic opportunities are identified as among the viable solutions. By transforming idle lands into a housing community combined with livelihood facilities where fishing is the main economic resource, the Fishermen’s Village was developed with proper sanitation, accessible road networks, good security and adequate power and water supply. In attaining the objectives of this terminal project stakeholders were surveyed of which their responses held favorable views toward the proposal. As a result the architectural and structural features applied into the design of the Fishermen’s Village are in accordance with the Urban Development and Housing Act of 1992 and the Socialized Housing Act of the Philippines.
