Abstract

The marine environment in Lucena City, Philippines faces numerous factors due to the unsustainable actions of the growing local population. This proposal aims to investigate and understand all of the factors that contribute to the deterioration of the marine ecosystem in Lucena City. By gaining a comprehensive understanding of these stressors, effective management strategies and mitigation measures can be implemented to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the marine environment. This study will utilize using quantitative data collection methods. Surveys will be conducted with local community members, fishermen especially people who live in the seashore to identify the primary factors they observe and recognize in the marine environment. These factors may include pollution, unsustainable fishing practices, habitat destruction, and climate change impacts such as sea-level rise and ocean acidification. By understanding the complex the complex interplay between human activities and the marine environment, this proposal seeks to develop practical solutions to combat these factors. Recommendations for sustainable waste management, responsible fishing practices, and ecosystem restoration projects will be provided, aiming to promote community stewardship to actively participate in the conservation and preservation of the marine environment. The outcomes of this research will not only serve to enlighten local policymakers but also act as a catalyst for changing behaviors and attitudes towards the marine environment among the residents of Lucena City. Through collaborative efforts, we can ensure a healthier and more resilient marine ecosystem that supports both biodiversity and the sustainable livelihoods of its inhabitants.
