Maritime Students' Awareness on Environmental Responsibilities and Activities during Post-pandemic: Basis for Information Literacy

Abstract

Now that the days of beings confined in their homes are done, Students are now attending their face-to-face classes and returning to their former daily routine before the lockdown happened. This study assessed the awareness of maritime students regarding environmental protection and its responsibilities and their thoughts about it . It used the analysis approach of quantitative methods. The study was conducted at Manuel S. Enverga University located in Lucena City. The locale of this study is the location of the CME Department where the maritime students can be found as they are chosen to be the respondents of this study. The respondents were all of the students from 2nd year and 3rd-year maritime students as they experienced online classes in college to hit a minimum target. The researchers used the questionnaire as their main instrument to collect and gather information about the thoughts and awareness of maritime students post-pandemic. The results of the study imply that the majority of the 2nd year students have already perceived and understand the importance of environmental responsibilities, as it is teaching in the department in sustaining the maritime environment from damage and knowing the responsibilities of one even in pandemic and retains that knowledge in the post-pandemic, especially to achieve an official rank on-board, this awareness will be an important aspect in seafaring.
