A Sustainable Design of 147 meters Covered Sidewalk along Enverga Boulevard, MSEUF Campus Barangay. Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City

Completed2024

Abstract

Covered sidewalks play a crucial role in creating pedestrian-friendly environments, offering protection, comfort, and aesthetic enhancements that contribute to overall livability. Researchers conducted a survey along Enverga Boulevard, finding a lack of proper sidewalks posed risks to pedestrians, especially students. The study aims to design a 147-meter long and 1.1-meter -wide covered sidewalk, following the National Structural Code of the Philippines (NSCP 2015). With the use of ASTM C136 and Atterberg Limits, soil classification found to be a Silty or Clayey Gravel Sand which has an ultimate bearing capacity of 1900 kN/m2 enough to carry the computed ultimate load of 672.5 kN/m2 for overall structure of covered sidewalk. The total cost of the project including the material cost and labor cost is PHP 541,205.00 and has an estimated 70-day total duration completion of the work. Upon the survey and evaluation of 10 engineering professionals, the results show success for consideration of safety, aesthetic, economic, and feasibility of the project study.
