Area of Research
Abstract
Dispute resolution is a method of assessing public needs that aims to foster domestic and
social harmony at the community level. In the Philippines, Lupong Tagapamaya serves as a
local dispute resolution mechanism that allows communities to manage and mediate minor
conflicts without resorting to the formal judicial system. This study sought to determine the
effectiveness of the Lupong Tagapamayapa in settling disputes of residents in selected
barangays in Calauag, Quezon. It utilized a descriptive design, with one hundred (100)
randomly selected residents as respondents for the survey. The survey results show that the
majority of the respondents have the mean age of 23, are female, enrolled in college and reside
in their current location for 11 years or more. Moreover, respondents highlighted the importance
of a convenient dispute resolution process and a safe environment, fostering a supportive
culture for mediation. The study also recommends fostering greater community involvement by
encouraging the active participation of residents in the dispute resolution process and ensuring that the Lupong Tagapamayapa holds regular meetings to discuss ongoing cases, share best
practices, and address any challenges faced in the dispute resolution process.
