Design of a 345-meter long Reinforced Concrete Riprap Structure Along Malagunlong River in Agdangan, Quezon

Completed2024

Abstract

This study tackles the urgent issue of riverbank erosion and flooding along the Malagunlong River in Agdangan, Quezon, by proposing a 345-meter long reinforced concrete riprap structure. Historical evidence of significant erosion and flooding, worsened by Typhoon Glenda and high annual rainfall, putting the river’s stability and nearby infrastructure at risk. The design process consists of a comprehensive site investigation, which includes hydrological analysis, soil tests, and needs-assessment survey. The designed riprap structure is 4.5 meters high and intended to handle an estimated 3.5 m/s flow velocity and withstand dynamic forces of the river, ensuring flood protection and stability. The outline of the design involved meticulous materials selection and stability analysis to guarantee the riprap's safety against sliding, overturning, and soil capacity. The output of the study includes a detailed documentation which encompass engineering plans and drawings, bill of materials, program of works, and technical specifications. In the evaluation of the design, a stability analysis was conducted in this study to verify that the structure has strong safety factors against potential failure modes. This study presents a comprehensive and m methodical solution to the flooding and erosion issues of Malagunlong River in Agdangan, Quezon addressing the issue and providing significant benefits to the local community.
