A Design of a Steel Pedestrian Overpass Bridge located at the Old Manila South Road – Dalahican Road Intersection in Brgy. Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City

Completed2024

Abstract

This study addressed the urgent issues of traffic congestion and pedestrian safety at the junction of Old Manila South Road and Dalahican Road in Lucena City through proposed steel pedestrian overpass bridge. Detailed traffic surveys emphasized the significant contribution of small vehicles, such as motorcycles, trycles, SUV sedans ,big trucks and buses to congestion, particularly during peak hours making up 81% of the bottleneck. The design of the pedestrian bridge strictly adheres to AASHTO standards and relevant regulations, prioritizing safety and structural integtrity. The estimated construction cost is P8,000,000 with a project duration of 8 months. Detailed construction plans, technical specifications, and material lists have been meticulously developed, following DPWH manuals and standards. Evaluations, based on AASHTO LRFD Bridge Specification, BSDS Design Standard Guide Manual, and DPWH guidelines, have confirmed the efficacy and safety of the proposed structure. This study not only provides practical solutions for improving traffic flow and pedestrian safety at the intersection but also serves as a valuable reference for future transportation infrastructure projects.
