Perceived Impact of Using Solar Photovoltaic System on Maritime Transport: Promoting Sustainability in the Maritime Industry
Area of Research
Abstract
The solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in maritime transport present a paradigm shift towards
sustainability in the maritime industry. The researchers examined the perceived impact of
adopting solar PV systems on maritime vessels, focusing on their potential to promote
environmental conservation and operational efficiency. By harnessing solar energy, maritime
transport can mitigate its reliance on fossil fuels, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and
mitigating climate change impacts. Solar PV systems offer numerous benefits to maritime
operations, including reduced fuel consumption and enhanced energy resilience. The researchers
used a quantitative sampling method to conduct the study. Furthermore, the researchers used a quantitative sampling method to conduct the study. Furthermore, the researchers conducted their only survey through Google Forms and their respondents were the College of Maritime students at Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation to know what are the perceived impacts of using solar photovoltaic systems. Moreover, the results that the researchers have obtained from the respondents suggests that the majority of the data generally agreed on the perceived positive impacts of the solar photovoltaic system, Beyond environmental considerations, solar-powered vessels enhance corporate social responsibility by minimizing ecological footprint and promoting a greener image. The challenges such as initial investment costs, technological limitations, and regulatory frameworks require careful consideration. Despite these challenges, the perceived benefits of using solar PV systems in maritime transport outweigh the associated barriers, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient maritime industry. The researchers recommended that Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation College of Maritime Education department coordinate with partner shipping companies by suggesting a plan of action that consists of implementation and further discussion. This abstract underscores the significance of embracing solar energy as a catalyst for sustainable development in the maritime industry.
