ANALYSIS OF THE FACTORS AFFECTING CAREER CHOICE OF STUDENTS IN THE POST-PANDEMIC TIMES THROUGH THE CAREER SAILBOAT MODEL: IMPLICATION TO THE CAREER GUIDANCE AND DEVELOPMENT
Area of Research
Abstract
The research thoroughly examined the numerous factors influencing students' career decisions in the post-pandemic era, employing the comprehensive Career Sailboat Model as a guiding framework that involved grade 10 students and teachers, and parents from other grade levels with incoming Grade 11 students. The findings reveal that most student respondents are predominantly female, residing in rural areas with P10,000 and below family income, and favoring Facebook as their primary social media platform. Despite recognizing the abundance of career opportunities in the post-pandemic, students' apprehension stems from the uncertainties inherent in navigaring the job market. Students underscore the key role of personal factors in career decision-making, emphasizing the importance of aligning career choices with individual interests and aspirations. Identified challenges encompass a broad spectrum from a lack of practical experience nad self-esteem issues to the pervasive influence of societal norms. Gender disparities are also notes, particularly concerning system-related and community-based factors within the Career Sailboat Model. Hence, to strengthen existing career guidance initiatives, integrating decision-making competencies into the educational curriculum, and reinforcing parental engagement in career planning are highly recommended. Furthermore, the study promotes the implementation of a comprehensive Career Guidance Program aimed at equipping students with the necessary skills and support systems to navigate their career journeys successfully. Lastly, this research serves as an invaluable resource for educational institutions and policymakers alike, offering valuable insights to better equip students for the multifaceted challenges of the evolving post-pandemic job landscape, thereby fostering a more resilient and prepared workforce.
