Remote Monitoring System with Dual Shutdown Functionality for Cell Site
Area of Research
Abstract
In the telecommunications industry, limitations of existing monitoring methods, including the inability to continuously monitor, delayed responsive times, and the increased likelihood of human error, stand as a significant concern. Thos study aims to address these challenges by developing a remote monitoring system with dual shutdown functionality, manual and automatic, for monitoring environmental parameters including water level, temperature, humidity, smoke, AC voltage and AC current. Additionally, the system integrates GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and IoT (Internet of Things) technologies for real-time data monitoring, alarm for threshold notifications, and shutdown control for enhancing proactive response capabilities. This project study proposes the architecture of the remote monitoring system through research and development methodology. Field engineers, directly engaged with operational aspects similar to those targeted for imrpovement, were selected using non-probability purposive sampling. This study aims to provide a comprehensive solution aligned with modern technology and infrastucture demands which is modular, low-cost easier to move and operate, can be expanded according to practical need of cell site management and operations. The prototype comprises major components including arduino Mega with Ethernet Shield, Gsm Sim 8001 v2, DHT22, MQ-2, Pzem-004Tm and floaters. The Blynk IoT platform is used for real-time monitoring, control, and data handling. Testingand evaluation include unit testing, integration testing, and acceptance testing, ensure the functionality, effciency, and effectiveness of the prototype. Evaluation scores, obtained using a 5-functionality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the prototype. Evaluation scores, obtained using a 5-point Likert scale, show weighted mean scores of 4,7 4.62, and 4.68, respectively.
