Acoustic Sensor-Based Rice Pest Control System

Abstract
This study focuses on the development and evaluation of a rice pest control system that uses sound sensors to detect and mitigate insect infestaions in rice fields. The system analyzes the distinct acoustic signals of rice pests, specifically the "Atangya" Rice insect, within a predetermined wing-beat frequency range of 80-123 Hz using modern acoustic sensor technologies, such as a MEMS microphone. The system additionally incorporates a method for sending SMS notifications to farmers when pest activity is detected. To assess the prototype system's efficacy and performance, field experiments in rice fields were carried out after it had been designed, developed, and tested. The system was evaluated by the five rice farmers in Purok 2, Brgy. Talaan in Sariaya Quezon, with an overall average rating of 4.5%. The experiment findings show how well the system can identify the target insect and notify farmers promptly, allowing for preventative pest control and prossible crop preservation. Based on chances to improve crop productivity and sustainability, the results show that acoustic sensor technology can be an effective tool for integrated pest control in rice cultuvation.
