A PROPOSED SARIAYA FISHING PORT
Abstract
This study will conduct to provide a design of a fishing port that keeps in mind
the comfort and needs of the users. This project also wanted to help boost the fishing
industry in Sariaya, Quezon, by providing facilities to support local fishermen. The
municipality of Sariaya has seven (7) coastal barangays. Bignay I, Bignay II,
Castañas, Guisguis-San Roque, Talaan Aplaya, Guis-guisTalon, and Mangalang
Kiling are among them. They are also the possible beneficiaries of this project. The
fishing occupation is one of the main occupations of the coastal barangays of
Sariaya, but in recent years, it has lost some of its importance because of a lack of
support from the local government. Israel & Roque (2000) investigated fishing port
development in the Philippines, and they found that most of the existing regional
ports were underutilized and the existing municipal ports were grossly inadequate
to serve the coastal communities. Unfortunately, the municipality of Saraiya doesn’t
have a fishing port, and this study will provide a well-planned fishing port that will
address the needed facilities for fish handling. This thesis is intended to examine the
issues and concerns within the scope of the study and, after that, an architectural
design solution to the associated problems. The architectural solution will focus on
sustainability to have an eco-friendly building. It is important to design sustainable buildings for the efficiency of resources used. The idea is to reduce the built
environment's impact on human health and the natural environment.
