AN INQUIRY IN MAINTAINING ACCREDITATION, CHALLENGES, AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENTS OF COLLEGES IN THE DAUGHTERS OF CHARITY - ST. LOUISE DE MARILLAC EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM (DC-SLMES)

Completed2024

Abstract

Accreditation seeks to ensure that schools maintain standards of excellence. This study investigates best practices, challenges, and opportunities for improvement in maintaining accreditation within the Basic Education Departments (BEDs) of Daughters of Charity-St. Louise de Marillac Educational System (DC-SLMES) colleges. The research focuses on four core areas of accreditation based on the Philippine Catholic School Standards (PCSS) manual and employs an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. Data collection involved surveys with school administrators and teachers, followed by online focus group discussions. The findings highlight best practices in maintaining accreditation, including emphasizing Catholic identity and mission, promoting learner development, fostering a positive learning environment, and ensuring effective leadership and govermance. However, challenges such as limited resources, stakeholder engagement difficulties, and staff motivation were also identified. Opportunities for improvement exist in areas like integrating the mission into daily activities. This research provides valuable insights for DC-SLMES schools to enhance their accreditation processes and contribute to a more enriching Catholic educational experience for students.
