IMPACT OF PARTY SWITCHING TO THE QUALITY OF GOVERNANCE IN 3RD DISTRICT OF QUEZON

Abstract

Philippine elections through the years have been observed as "personality-based" and not based on platform of government and political ideology. This is due to the penchant of most political candidates of switching party affiliations and loyalty as if it were a used garment to be discarded if it no longer suited the political ambitions of the candidate. This research looked into the impact of party switching to the quality of governance in 3rd District of Quezon and the factors affecting politician to become political turncoats. This research used the descriptive-quantitative as its research design and it had 50 politicians and 150 citizens as the respondents of the study . Based on the findings , the researcher had concluded that : Party Switching does not have a big impact to the quality governance of 3rd Distrtict of Quezon in terms of promotion of human Rights , fair conduct of election , and absence of wrong doing and corruption. The public officials amidst of their frequent party switching are still doing their obligations as a public servant in the community. Moreover , political way to win , accepted practice , party switching as bravery act are the factors affecting politician to transfer from one party to another . It can be concluded that , party Switching may not has a big impact in the quality of governance in 3rd District of Quezon , it should be noted that the democracy of the said areas can be critical in the future if the political turncoatism still exist in big number and will continuous to exist in the near future. Indeed , a major final output of this research is Policy Recommendation for 3rd District of Quezon for the establishing of stable political parties.
