Abstract

This study focused on exploring the marriage and responsible parenting practices of SamaBadjao community at Brgy. Barra, Lucena City. Specifically, it identified the perception of the respondents towards RA 10354 also known as Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Helath Act of 2012. Moreover, this study analyzed the effects of family planning and the use of contraception to Sama-Badjao practices. The researcher also discuessed the problems ecountered by the respondents in following the guidelines under the aforementioned law. With the use of qualitative approach, the researcher conduct an interview which involves ten (10) Sama-Badjao parents with four and above children who are selected purposively. This study uses thematic analysis as its statistical treatment. Based on the result of the study, the respondents sees responsible parenthood and reproductive health act as essential to in terms of character development of the children. Moreover, the respondents shows awareness with the said law, however, according to the participants the legislatives protecting the rights of Indgenous people are more significant rather than RA 10354. Furthermore, financial stability was the major problem that the participants experienced in following the guidelines under this law. Thus, the researcher recommend to strengthen the comprehension of the Sama-Badjao community regarding she said law. Which means, establishing good education system for the said community is essential.
