VOTING PREFERENCES OF SAMA-BADJAO REGISTERED VOTERS IN BARANGAY BARRA, LUCENA CITY

Abstract
This research generally focused on analyzing the voting preferences of Sama-Badjao registered voters in Barangay Barram Lucena City. Specifically, this research determined the perception of the Sama-Badjao registered voters with regard to voting; their voting preferences; the challenges they encountered; and the factors that affect it including socioeconomic; socio-political, and socio-cultural factors. The researcher utilized a qualitative method and purposive sampling teqnique for the research design and selection of participants, socio-political, and socio-cultural factors. The researcher utilized a qualitative method and purposive sampling teqnique for the research design and selection of participants. This study was participated by 10 Sama-Badjao registered voters. the participants were purposively chosen according to this criterion: a member of the Sama-Badjao Community and recognized by their community members and leaders; a registered voter; and participated at least twice in the National election. Further, the researcher employed a focus group discussion to gather relevant data. After gathering the data and utilization of analysis method, the researcher found out that Sama-Badjao registered voters have the basic knowledge with regard to voting and there are several factors that effect their voting preferences. With the result of the study, the researcher proposed a Voters' education program which aims to recognize the value of their votes and encourage them more to participate socially and politically.
