Development and Validation of Video-Mediated Lectures in Science 3
Area of Research
Abstract
The primary objective of Science Education is to develop scientific literacy among learners that will help them to be ready in becoming productive citizens of the community. However, the COVID-19 pandemic struck the country, thus DepEd restricted to conduct face to face classes in schools throughout the country. As a result, different learning modalities were used to continue education. One of the learning modalities used was Printed Modular Distance Learning. This study aimed to develop and validate video-mediated lectures for Science 3 to address one of the problems encountered in Printed Modular Distance Learning which is the low mastery of the topics in Science. The researcher utilized a research and development design to complete this study. The respondents of this study were Grade 3 teachers and learners from Mulanay District. An evaluation sheet developed supplementary material. Results show that the developed video-mediated lectures for Science 3 received a 3.86 raiting from teacher-respondents, a 3.78 rating from validators, and a 3.90 rating from learner-respondents which are all very satisfactory. Moreover, the video-mediated lecture was found to improve the science performance of the Grade 3 learners. Hence, this study recommends using the developed material in a wider scope to further determine its effectiveness and validity.
