INFLUENCE OF DISCRIMINATION BASED ON SEXUAL ORIENTATION IN THE FOURTH DISTRICT OF LAGUNA

Completed2024

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the discrimination experienced by LGBT members in the 4th District of Laguna. It focused on evaluating the problems faced by the LGBT community to serve as the foundation for the creation of an anti-discrimination ordinance that will be proposed in Laguna. The study utilized a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative approach employed descriptive research and a narrative inquiry was done as a qualitative approach. To successfully generate and collect data, a self-made survey questionnaire was developed through Google Forms while an interview guide was used for the one-on-one interview. Stratified random sampling was used in selecting the respondents while convenience sampling was used to select the interviewees. Results revealed that the respondents sometimes experienced offensive offensive comments and jokes directed at them. Their defense mechanism differed based on the gravity of the discrimination experienced, which included ignoring it, surrounding themselves with true friends, upgrading themselves, and joining progressive groups. The most common consequence they sometimes faced was inability to move on with their life. The correlation analysis revealed that there was a significant relationship between the experienced discrimination and the impact of discrimination on them. It is recommended that a local anti-discrimination ordinance be passed to address the problem on sexual discrimination.
