LEVEL OF AWARENESS OF THE COMMUNITY REGARDING SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND ITS EFFECT ON THE VICTIM

Abstract

This research aims to determine the community's level of awareness regarding sexual harassment, particularly the women who experienced this kind of assault. Sexual harassment is a problem in the society that mostly affects the women and young girls. Studies have shown that sexual harassment suffers from some debilitating stress reactions, including anxiety, depression, headaches, sleep disorders, weight loss, and gain, nausea, and lowered self-esteem. This study aimed to identify the different forms of sexual harassment and determine the possible effects of sexual harassment on the victims. This study used a quantitative/descriptive method to conduct this research to determine the community's level of awareness regarding sexual harassment and its effect on the victim. The researchers used a stratified random sampling method to select the respondents. The variables considered are age, gender, civil status, and experiences. The study's respondents are 40 women participants in the community who have experienced sexual harassment and awareness. The following respondents were randomly selected, and those aged 18-50 years old living in the community and willing to participate with the researchers. These respondents are knowledgeable and can give further information in this study. Most respondents, 75% are between the ages of 18 and 23. Thus, the age group of 24-29 years old gained 20%, and the table shows that the ages of 18 and 23. As a result, they also strongly agreed on whether to avoid the potential sexual predator. Respondents, on the other hand, agree on how to protect themselves if they are subjected to potential sexual harassment. Respondents also agreed that there are potential authorities to whom they can report sexual harassment of they become a victim. They also strongly agreed that they know any potential sexual perpetrators in their workplace. Respondents also strongly agreed to the existing laws and policies that protect them from sexual harassment in the workplace.
